21 Days of Prayer and Fasting

Feb 8th – 28th Feb

To Our Amazing Church,

Over the next 21 days of prayer and fasting we want to encourage you to stretch your faith to believe God for His blessings and breakthroughs.

We have a great article on how to prepare for the fast and the different types of fasts that we can participate in over these 21 days.

They say that it takes at least 21 Days to form a habit.

  • What better habit to form at the beginning of the year than to learn to set time aside to pray, to fast to do devotions

Principally fasting is about denying ourselves of food.

  • For some, it could be a total fast and only water.

  • For some, it could be a partial fast of skipping just one or two meals.

  • For some, it could be a partial fast of skipping certain foods.

  • Some may choose the Daniel fast of just eating fruits and vegetables.

  • For some, it could be a morning fast or evening fast.

  • For some, it could be a soulish fast of certain pleasures, like Facebook, social media, TV,

  • One year we had some of the youth fasting XBOX or online gaming.

  • Whatever you are fasting from, eg: Dinner, take that time to set aside to pray and fast.

  • When you fast you will naturally lose weight, but understand this is not going to be a 21-day diet we’re going on a 21-day prayer and fasting adventure

God has blessed us so much, but there is always much more that God has for us.

Matthew 17:20 NKJV

So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.

  • Faith moves mountains and activates the impossible

  • You have got to know what that mountain is that you need to see moved.

  • It could be a mountain of unbelief in a family member that you want to see saved.

  • It could be a mountain of scepticism in a friend that you want to see saved.

  • It could be a mountain of debt that you want to see cleared.

  • It could be a mountain standing in the way of your provision that you want to believe God for.

  • It could be a mountain standing in the way of your breakthrough that you want to believe God for.

  • It could be a mountain standing in the way of your relationship that you want to believe God for.

  • Over this 21 day’s we are going to be speaking to those mountains

  • We are going to be believing for blessing and breakthroughs.

1. How to Begin

  • Start with a clear goal. Be specific. Why are you fasting? Do you need direction, healing, restoration of marriage or family issues? Are you facing financial difficulties? Ask the Holy Spirit for guidance. Pray and fast daily and follow us with our Daily Devotions. THE BATTLE BELONGS TO THE LORD.

2. Preparing Spiritually

  • Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal areas of weakness. Forgive all who have offended you and ask forgiveness from those you may have offended (Mark 11:25; Luke 11:4; 17:3-4). Surrender your life fully to Jesus Christ and reject and repent of the worldly desires that try to hinder you (Romans 12:1-2).

3. What to Expect

  • When you fast your body detoxifies, eliminating toxins from your system. This can cause mild discomfort such as headaches and irritability during withdrawal from caffeine and sugars. Naturally, you will have hunger pains. Limit your activity and exercise moderately. Take time to rest. Fasting brings about miraculous results. In this time listening to praise and worship. Pray as often as you can throughout the day. Get away from the normal distractions as much as possible and keep your heart and mind set on seeking God’s face.

4. How to End

  • Don’t overeat when the time comes to end your fast. Begin eating solid food gradually; eat small amounts to ease your body back into eating especially if you have chosen to fast for a long period.

Types of Fasts

Complete Fast
In this type of fast, you drink only liquids, typically water with light juices as an option.

Selective Fast
This type of fast involves removing certain elements from your diet. One example of a selective fast is the Daniel Fast, during which you remove meat, sweets, and bread from your diet and consume water and juice for fluids and fruits and vegetables for food.

Partial Fast
This fast is sometimes called the “Jewish Fast” and involves abstaining from eating any type of food in the morning and afternoon. This can either correlate to specific times of the day, such as 6:00 am to 3:00 pm, or from sunup to sundown.

Soul Fast
This fast is a great option if you do not have much experience fasting food, have health issues that prevent you from fasting food, or if you wish to refocus certain areas of your life that are out of balance. For example, you might choose to stop using social media or watching television for the duration of the fast and then carefully bring that element back into your life in healthy doses at the conclusion of the fast.
